11/14 Update

Writer: Chelsea BiehlChelsea Biehl

Greetings CAMRPSP,

On behalf of the CAMRPSP steering committee, we wanted to touch base with you and provide an update on where things are at with the efforts to stop the Gregory County Pumped Storage Project.

First, we want to thank all of you who submitted written letters to FERC with concerns and requests for studies. These well written letters came from individuals living on both sides of the river as well as several organizations. The letters brought up a wide range of topics to FERC's attention. To view the letters, you can go to: https://elibrary.ferc.gov/eLibrary/search When you get to this location on the website, you will see there are several empty fields, but all you have to type in is the docket number (P-14876-002) and click the blue "search" button. We hope you take the time to do this, you will be impressed.

The next step with FERC is they will review these letters/requests for studies and issue a 2nd scoping document by December 10, 2022. Western Minnesota Power files their proposed study plan by December 10th as well. Comments on the proposed study plan will be due by the stakeholders on March 10, 2023.

1-5-2023 This is a very important date! Western Minnestoa Power will be hosting a meeting for the public to review/explain their study plan. We have not been told where this meeting will be held, but we will want a LARGE presence at this meeting.

We talked about having a public meeting to inform everyone where things are presently at and for Q & A. But with the upcoming holidays we felt it would be hard to get that accomplished. We plan to have a public meeting sometime after January 5th.

There have been several articles written lately from interviews with area citizens that will be affected by this project. Here are links to couple of these stories.

About CAMRPSP

Citizens Against Missouri River Pumped Storage Project is a 501c3 organization that was created as a grassroots organization to fight what we view to be a federal and political overreach of the proposed Gregory County Pumped Storage Project. We chose a name for our organization to reflect the fact that it just isn’t Gregory County being threatened with this project. We want to portray a unified effort from both sides of the river. Not only both east and west sides of the river will be affected but several miles north and south from the proposed site will be as well.
